Two home invasion style robberies in the same neighborhood in Petersburg are the focus of this week's Crime Solvers spot. The first incident occurred on Wednesday, November 29th in the 200 block of South Jefferson Street. The second incident occurred on Thursday, January 11th in the 100 block of South Jefferson Street. Both incidents took place between 9:00 and 10:00 PM. In one case a door may have been left unlocked and the suspect just walked in. In the other case, the suspect pushed his way into the residence when the victim answered a knock at the door. Luckily there have only been minor injuries. Both victims describe the suspect as a black male, 5'8" to 6' tall, medium build up to 200 lbs. Items taken in both robberies include some cash, a wallet, a gold money clip, and a silver pistol. The warning here is to make sure your doors are locked and be very sure you know who you are opening your door to. A purse snatching that occurred at 11:30 PM on Tuesday, January 9th in Petersburg is the focus of this week's Crime Solvers spot. The victim, a senior citizen, was in the parking lot of her apartment building on North Union Street. As she walked from her car to the building's entrance, the suspect - without saying a word - grabbed the red purse and a small green and white duffle bag she was carrying. The victim was completely caught off guard and did not have the opportunity to resist. Luckily she was not injured. The suspect is described as a black male dressed entirely in blue - jacket, shirt and pants. He fled the scene through an alleyway - running northbound toward West Tabb Street. There have been similar incidents during the last few weeks and police are trying to determine if they are connected in any way. At 9:05 AM on Thursday, December 7th, a lone gunman entered the Bank of Southside Virginia branch at 2703 South Crater Road. While displaying a silver handgun, he ordered everyone to lay on the floor. He then robbed the bank - putting the stolen money in to a "fanny pack" he wore around his waist. This suspect is described as a black male about 5'5" tall with a medium build. He was wearing a dark colored flight jacket with fur around the hood and blue jeans. His hair and forehead were covered by a dark stocking cap and his mouth and chin were concealed by a dark scarf or bandana. He was last seen running Southbound on South Crater Road.
